The aim of our study was to evaluate the knowledge gained and retained by neonatal nurses following neonate resuscitation program (NRP) course. The study comprised 30 neonatal nurses. A 3-day course was held in the Department of Pediatrics, Medical School, Trakya University. A written test with 80 questions derived from the standard test contained in the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Manual was given to the neonatal nurses before, at the end and six months after the course. The percentages of correct answers significantly improved immediately after the course (%33,6 ± 10; %92,4 ± 6,1). The percentages at the six months follow-up-course test were significantly reduced as (%56,2 ± 12,6) compared to the post-course results, but remained higher with respect to pre-course results. The knowledge gained and retained had increased significantly after the NRP course particularly in the administration of medications and fluids step. These data suggest that a NRP course may be required prior the end of the usual two-year certification period of NRP courses especially one year after the course. (Turk Arch Ped 2007; 42: 153-5)
Yenidoğan “resüsitasyon” program kursu sonrası yenidoğan hemşirelerinin bilgi kazanımları
Yenidoğan “Resüsitasyon” Programı (YRP) kursu sonrası yenidoğan hemşirelerinin bilgi kazanım ve sürdürmelerinin değerlendirilmesidir. Çalışmaya katılan 30 yenidoğan hemşiresi Trakya Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı’nda düzenlenen, dört basamaktan oluşan üç günlük bir YRP kursuna alındı. Katılımcılara Amerikan Çocuk Akademisi’nin önerileri doğrultusunda kurs öncesi, kurs sonrası ve kurstan altı ay sonra aynı sorulardan oluşan 80 soruluk bir yazılı sınav uygulandı. Katılımcıların doğru yanıt yüzdelerinin kurs öncesine göre (%33,6 ± 10) kurs sonrası (%92,4 ± 6,1) önemli oranda arttığı saptandı. Kurstan altı ay sonra yapılan sınavın doğru yanıt yüzdelerinde ise (%56,2 ± 12,6) kurs sonrasına göre azalma saptanırken, kurs öncesine göre belirgin olarak yüksek kaldığı belirlendi. Kurstan sonra bilgi kazanımı özellikle sıvı ve ilaçların yönetimi basamağında belirgindi. Bu bulgular; YRP kurslarının iki yıllık süresi dolmadan, özellikle kurstan en geç bir yıl sonra tekrar edilmesi gerekebileceğini göstermiştir.(Turk Arş Ped 2007; 42: 153-5)
